The Marling pattern collection and accessory line finds its roots within three stylistic movements: Scandinavian illustration, midcentury surface design, and the Memphis art movement of the 1980s. Together, these influences can be found in five motifs characterized by mod geometric shapes, playful repetition, and textural elements of surprise.
The challenge in creating a lookbook was to translate each pattern and handbag into a correlating visual mood. Marling's lookbook showcases a narrative that allows each patterned accessory to stand individually, while still feeling cohesive in character. In addition to designing the patterns and layout, I illustrated each bag and handwrote the calligraphy.
